Lord Puddlefang contacted me in a dream as a child, in many
dreams in fact. I had been in training as a druid, and at first I saw
him as being a powerful creature from the emerald dream. On this strange
day he came to me in a dream, but it was different kind of dream. As
time went on I learned more from him, I learned about his past and his
home world, and learned a great many things from him in that way.
I sensed a greater power from him then I had ever experienced before,
and although he did not speak to me in any Azerothian language, nor
in any real language at all, it became immediate clear about what I
must do. I left my home that very night and headed in the direction
that the dream sent me.
I set off for the island of Teldrassil.
I took with me only the clothes on my back, a bow, a quiver with a few
arrows, and a small dagger. Days went by and I wandered, defending myself
where I had to, until at last I arrived at my destination. It was a
sparsely tread grassland with cliffs to one side, and a river to the
other. There about 100 paces in front of where I stood, was the edge
of the World Tree.
There was a massive grey spider in this area, one which I did not wish
to encounter. I did my best to avoid its gaze.
Around here were smaller green spiders, and one of them spotted me,
staring intently through shiny black eyes, I had supposed he was just
curious to see such a young night elf female so deep in the woods.
Suddenly the grey spider sensed my presence, turning to face me. This
was a test and I knew it.
*inserts scene from lowbie lvl12 night elf quest here*
The grey spider pounced; and I barely dodged the swift attack.
We fought for an interminable number of minutes, but it felt like an
eternity for me as a youngling, until at last I drove an arrow tip into
one of the grey spider’s eyes. Icky spider goo sprayed all over
my arm, and I was able to quickly strike a killing blow with my dagger.
The beast roared, rearing into the sky in horror over its defeat, then
fell just as fast. It was an empty shell, only the casing of the living
creature it once was.
I stood visibly shaking, glancing around in bewilderment and scanning
for other spiders that might attack. There was only the one who had
been looking at me earlier now, once again gazing intently upon me.
Defiantly I lifted my head to stare back at him.
I caught what appeared to be a grin upon the countenance of the spider.
I raised a hand towards him, with my palm up. Green light began to form
translucent leaves around my fingertips, and the leaves danced and whirled
furiously, encircling my hand. The little green spider charged.
I held perfectly still as he attacked me, knowing that I mustn’t
break the energy channel of the spell. He lashed at my arms and chest,
envenoming me with his poisons, but still I stood. My concentration
remained unscathed, until at last the attack was over.
The great green spider moved backwards, and as my vision began to clear
I saw him tilt his head down while his abdomen went up, exposing his
delicate spinnerets. This was a bow, and a gesture of mutual respect
Both the spider and the girl seemed confident they had found what they
were seeking, and the girl dropped to the ground, too tired to remain
standing any longer.
